Counseling and Student Development Center staff members are available to present workshops and classroom presentations on a wide variety of topics related to college success. These programs can be requested for your student group or class. If you would like to request one of these workshops, please call us at 956-7927.
- Stress Management
Stress is an unavoidable part of college life. This workshop will examine different strategies used to decrease stress and help participants choose ways to better manage the stress in their lives.
- Time Management
Time is finite but the demands on one's time often seem infinite. Learning to balance school, work, and other demands is necessary for academic success. This workshop will explore effective time management strategies.
- Reading Skills
Much of what is learned in college is acquired through reading. Increasing reading comprehension and speed and learning what to highlight are some of the valuable reading skills that will be addressed in this workshop.
- Listening and Note-taking
Getting the most out of lectures is essential to effective learning. Knowing what notes to take in class and how to effectively organize one's notes are important skills that will be learned in this workshop.
- Exam Preparation
Taking exams is one of the most stressful parts of university life. However, there are important principles of exam preparation that can be learned that will decrease anxiety and increase academic performance.
- Creating College Success Through Wellness
Students can create balance and success by learning about and setting personal goals related to six areas of wellness: social, occupational, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual wellness.
- Making Decisions About Alcohol and Other Drugs
Are alcohol and drugs always a part of university life? They don't have to be. Deciding whether to use alcohol and other drugs are important decisions for all students to make. This workshop will provide current information that should be used in making these decisions.
- Introduction to Career Planning and Decision Making
Choosing an appropriate academic major and career path are important decisions for university students. This workshop will introduce career planning concepts and theories and highlight resources on campus.
- Building Friendships and Relationships
The university campus can be a lonely place unless you know how to meet people and build relationships. This workshop focuses on skills and processes that allow everyone to meet people and build better friendships.
- Understanding Your Family
Near or far, good or bad, our family legacy continues to impact us throughout our life. This workshop will explore common patterns of family dynamics and how these patterns impact us throughout life.
- Understanding Your Personality
Each of us have unique talents and strengths that we can use to our advantage. By learning about one's personality using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, workshop participants can identify their own personal strengths.
